WALKING WITNESS
The Fishermen’s Purpose
Psalm 66:16-20 Come and listen, all you who fear God and let me tell you what He did for me, for I cried out to Him praising Him as I spoke. If I had not confessed the sin in my heart the Lord would not have listened. But God did listen He paid attention to my prayer. Praise God who did not ignore my prayer or withdraw his unfailing love from me.
Romans 1:28-32 Since they thought it foolish to acknowledge God, God abandoned them to their foolish thinking and let them do things that should never be done. Their lives were full of every kind of wickedness, sin, greed, hate, envy, murder, quarreling, deception, malicious behavior, and gossip. They are backstabbers, haters of God, insolent, proud, and boastful. They invent new ways of sinning, and they disobey their parents. They refuse to understand, break their promises, are heartless, and have no mercy. They know God’s justice requires that those who do these things deserve to die, yet they do them anyway. Worse yet they encourage others to do them, too. (Sounds like Bad News)
Romans 5:8 “But the Good News Is” God showed his GREAT love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were yet sinners.
Galatians 5:19-23 When you follow the desires of your sinful nature the results are very clear: sexual Immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again as I have before that anyone living that sort of life will not enter the Kingdom of Heaven.
Galatians 5:22-23 But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
1 Corinthians 6:18-19 Run from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. For sexual immorality is a sin against your own body. Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself so you must honor God with your body.
Romans 6:23 The wages of sin is death (bad news) The Good News, the free gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Galatians 6:1-2 Dear brothers and sisters, if another believer is overcome by sin you who are godly, should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path. And be careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself. If you think you are too important to help someone you are only fooling yourself. You are not that important.
2 Timothy 3:1-5 You should know this Timothy that in the last days there will be very difficult times. For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred. They will be unloving and unforgiving, they will slander others and have no self control. They will be cruel and hate what is good. They will betray their friends, be reckless, puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God. They will act religious but they will reject the power that could make them godly. Stay away from people like that.
2 Timothy 4:3-4 For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear.
Hebrews 6:12 You have been believers for so long now that you ought to be teaching others. Instead, you need someone to teach you again the basic things about God.
Hebrews 10:24-25 Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect meeting together as some people do but encourage one another especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.
James 4:7 So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and he will draw near to you.
Acts 20:24 My life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned by the Lord Jesus-the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.
Mathew 4:19 Jesus said, “Follow me and I will make you Fishers of Men.”
